Bundala

This park is situated along one of the most beautiful stretches of coast in Sri Lanka. There is no development of any kind and the beaches and sand dunes stretch for miles.

Behind them are clusters of lagoons, wetlands, dry scrub and grasslands. They are home to huge array of migratory and endemic birds, not to mention crocodiles, water buffalo, monkeys and elephants.

Many of the lagoons are shallow enough to drive though. The best time to visit is between September and March when many of the migratory birds come to Sri Lanka to winter.

Up to 200 birds species have been counted over the years. See if you can spot a Caspian tern, an Asiatic golden plover, painted stork, Eurasian spoonbill, ibis, Malabar pied hornbill, or crested hawk eagle to name but a few.

The park has a good visitor centre leading out to a fantastic viewing platform over the biggest lagoon. It is also possible drive up and down the sand dunes in a four-by-four.

We run full or half-day safaris and you can combine them with overnight camping, picnics and BBQ's
